8. Michael Essien – Ghana

Essien was once known as one of the world’s leading central midfielders and he spent the best years of his Chelsea career. Emerging in the colors of Bastia and then Lyon in France, the 33-year-old midfielder was bought by the Blues in 2005 for £ 24.4 million. After eight seasons on Chelsea pay, Essien moved to AC Milan in 2013 and is now on the other side of his career.

7. Yaya Toure – Ivory Coast

Similar to Essien, Yaya Toure is also considered one of the best central midfielders that African football has produced. At the age of 31, the Ivory Coast star remains an important part of Manchester City’s squad and has helped the club win two Premier League titles in the last three years.

Before that, in the Barcelona shirt, Toure also performed extremely well and with the Catalan giants winning La Liga, the King’s Cup, Champions League and Club World Cup. In early 2015, Toure helped Ivory Coast to win the Cup of African Nations after defeating Nigeria in the final. As for the individual title, Toure won the title of “Africa’s Best Player” for 4 consecutive years from 2011 to 2014.

6. Jay-Jay Okocha – Nigeria

Jay-Jay Okocha is one of Africa’s most technically skilled players with dribbling and dribbling moves. During his career, Okocha did not play for many major European clubs except Paris Saint-Germain, but he is still known and loved by many fans.

This 1973 midfielder stormed the Premier League in the Bolton Wanderers shirt from 2002-2006. Okocha helped Nigeria win the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 and was voted the best player in Nigeria every seven years.
